From behind the great wall of the exam’s venue, a sudden blur of movement would be seen by no one. While the preparations for this event had been brief, the memory of what would transpire following today would last for a lifetime. Today was the day that the world would be reminded that you could not steal from The Village Hidden in the Leaves without repercussion.
Hovering in the cool winter air, Kanari Osoi gripped tightly at his staff. Until now, the prospect of declaring war was little more than theoretical. He always suspected that this day might come, and thusly prepared the village as best he could. In all that time, however, had he prepared himself? For years, he fancied himself the ideal Wartime Hokage- fancied that his resolve would be as turgid as the greatest of leaders in eras past.
Yet still his breath stuttered before his eyes.
A nervous smirk perked suddenly as he breathed sharply through his nose. Am I really this anxious right now?
Was it even really for the war? Was it over the partnership with one who Kanari could not help but distrust? Perhaps it was the uncertainty of what Ryoka would do or how she would feel about all of this. Or hell, maybe he was just worried about how the world at large would react to his impediment.
Closing his eyes, the Handsome Hokage took a deep breath. He had done his reflection, he had made up his mind. These were little more than jitters, a falsehood that could only delay what Kyōsuke would start anyway. Whether by providence or as some sort of self-fulfilling prophecy, Kanari always knew this day was inevitable.
Another deep breath.
He had felt this way before, before many battles started on his terms. As his brilliant blue eyes once more met the carved stone, he steeled his resolve. Like getting into a cold pool, there was really only one way to do this: Just jump in.
In that instant, a multitude of clouds of smoke gave way to identical copies of the Handsome Hokage. They wasted no time as they shot straight into the air at a speed few in attendance could even register. They wouldn’t have to, however, as they soon came right back down. One hundred handsome devil’s descended all around the spectator stands, effectively surrounding the crowd as they crashed with loud claps and bo staffs at the ready. Even the exits would be manned by two such Kanari each. Ten more blurs would be seen speeding into the corridors and en route to the infirmary and team meeting rooms as the remaining ninety peered over the crowd between them.
“Shinobi from the big villages, listen to me. I, Kanari Osoi, Hokage of Konohagakure, here to make an official statement of warring against Kemurigakure,”
they each sounded in a loud chorus heard by all in the likely suddenly stunned silenced stands. “Together with Kyōsuke and Sunagakure, we will not accept any disturbance in this victory!”
Their voices, now plunged into the heat of the moment, showed only strength and determination. “Kemuri shinobi, Please put your weapons and devote. There is no evil that will come to you in our hands until you press them…”
These final words were much more subdued in tone, an earnest plea for his enemies to not risk bloodshed.
“Konoha and Suna Shinobi, you are can not kill anyone without high petitions. Those who are challenging this are to be punished.”
The real Kanari, floating thirty meters above the concordant proclamation, waited for the world’s response.
