The two spun to a halt, skidding across the ground and giving each other a happy look when suddenly the people they thought they had run through just simply...weren't. Genjutsu? They had just jumped into action and apparently been caught in some illusion that had lead them into thinking they hit some fools. They both felt a pang of sadness to realize that they hadn't actually done anything but that sadness was replaced with hope. It would've been boring if they just got to burst through the front lines, this way they still had things to break!

Speaking of breaking, the Kemurikages made a break for Kanari, moving at a speed that the Inuzuka was familiar with, having fought the Hokage. It was interesting to lose sight of them, relying solely on his nose to follow the action. It was neat that they were moving so fast, but he would've liked to be able to see what was going on. Thankfully another of the combatants was a more reasonable person. All he did was drop a giant metal bat on the ground. An awed grin slowly formed on the Inuzuka's face as the ground beneath him shook from the blow. Ame...he's like us! The idea of fighting someone like that, it was more than the teen could handle. He quickly took off towards that fight, but yet again he was halted.

He listened to what the guy had to say, the excited smile he had from seeing the bunny-eared guy's attack slowly fading. The final comment about the Academy destroyed the last of that excitement. "What a buzzkill. Kanari-sama, we can hit him as hard as we want, right?"

The time for talk rapidly ended into a fight. A fight the Senju had wished that could of been avoided. If their Saizo kage was dead, then why were they still here? Visions of the kemurikage flashed past her along with one familiar face. "Etsu-sensei!" The realization that her sensei might had killed the kage filled her mind and for a moment, she was happy - happy that her sensei had won, until she then realized that she hadn't seen Etsu-sensei ever since that day that they were caught. Did they capture her? Did she die after all? Where was she now?! Ayano's expression went from confused and unwilling to angry and confused. What was going on?! They had to save her! She had to ask, they had to know.

What exactly happened to Etsu Okami? As the group wanted to proceed closer towards the gates a figure stopped them right in their tracks. The legendary loser. "Tsh." Kunai twirled into a reverse grip. He wasn't going to let them through. Not today. First the destruction of a peaceful area and now he wanted to get in their way to provide their sensei's support. If he delayed them too long, their superiors might die. "The academy is where you'll wish you were when we're done with you." a thought she wished she could spout out - but the Senju knew, she knew she was scared. The mask of determination could only cover so much. Speech wasn't one of them. Despite all that, she had a sensei to save!

And this man was in her way.

Seeing the group of clones conjured up before her as the twins touched down onto the grass at the foot of the village gates, Tane knew that it was her turn to act before her sister was overwhelmed. Her abilities with Ninjutsu would be difficult to make effective use of in a battle of speed demons, the art form being much slower and less-instantaneous than the rhythm of battle that they were diving head-first into. Yet, if she chose her strategies carefully and enacted them without wasting an instant, perhaps one or two moves would prove fruitful. From the middle of her sister's back, Tane's hands popped out, remaining within the body enough to avoid leaving much to be detected, but just enough for her hands to form a single hand seal.

As Rumi moved in, her eyes strained to see whatever was occurring before her. Unable to immediately explain it, something regarding the armor that Kanari wore seemed to be altered, partially impairing the Kemurikage's ability to accurately read the body language of her opponent. With the creation of numerous clones around the Hokage, she would have to tread carefully. Still, though, she persisted in her charge. Drawing nearer to Kanari, it became all too apparent that he would be ready for them. With his staff firmly gripped in hand, he began to swing towards her to stop the white-haired woman from getting near enough to attack. In that moment, Rumi hesitated for the shortest of moments while she watched in order to discern the true nature of the attack. Between her training in Taijutsu and studies in Ijutsu, analyzing the body and how it worked was second nature to her, and contradictory messages were all too apparent. While the armor told her one thing, the body language of the rest of Kanari's body told another story. Without the time to think much on it, Rumi trusted her instincts to act off of the rest of the Hokage's body.

With great speed and precision, Rumi hopped out forward and to her left, narrowly avoiding the downward sweep of the staff while circulating around the opposite side of Kanari from the incoming clone with a swirling ball of condensed energy. As she traversed through the space, her body rotated in order to get in a strike on the man, her left arm sweeping horizontally while her right hand swung vertically along the Hokage's arms, creating a cross-strike that would strike the tendons in his arm in order to disable them. In truth, she didn't quite expect the attacks to land, but they served the purpose of covering her dodge while she regained her footing-- the incoming strikes would make it hard for the man to bring his weapon back towards them in a direct fashion to strike at their backs, for doing so would leave them too exposed to the incoming scalpels.

Shortly after Rumi had passed by the Hokage but not far beyond, a static field of lightning extended out from the twins' shared body, enveloping a 30m-wide space around them. Lightning crackled within the space, strips of visible static appearing here and there throughout the area. While Rumi's strike would hopefully occupy the Hokage, Tane's technique would ensure that the clones did not harass them too closely. The lightning would shock all those within its area. Compared to many other techniques from the Lightning Release category, the voltage of this one was relatively small, and for a man of Kanari's condition, the shocks would not be potent enough to result in muscle spasms or anything of the sort. Still, the attack would prove painful to remain within. The clone would receive the short end of the stick-- without the full durability of a real being, contact with the lightning field would result in its immediate dispersal.

With their set of moves completed, Rumi struck her landing a fair distance behind the Hokage, turning around as swiftly as possible to ready herself for the man's next play. There were countless numbers of other things going on, such as Kaoru's engagement or Shingen's decision to tackle the Genin, but in the heat of combat, the twins had no time to dwell on their thoughts on the matters. To lose focus for an instant could spell the end.

(OOC: Hope you don't mind me going a lil' out of order, Kye, just wanted to get Kazu over to the new topic so they didn't have to wait much longer)

Kazu continued to watch the raging conflicts alongside his fellow Genin, a feeling of reassurance washing over him as one of the Hokage's clones positioned himself beside them. Even within the heat of battle against the Kage of another village, Kazu's leader held the youth in his thoughts. It made for a conflicting tension in the Uchiha's mind-- he couldn't help but question what the purpose of this war truly was, but the kindness he had been shown by Kanari and the admiration Kazu had for the man led him to believe that the war was just. It was a reassurance that in that moment Kazu had certainly needed.

A new challenger approached. Mangetsu Shingen, The Legendary Loser of Sunagakure, announced his intentions to occupy the group of Genin's time. To Kanari's clone, he assured that he had no intention of harming them. It seemed he only wanted to prevent them from continuing on. Kazu's blood began to boil at that. While on one hand, he was relieved that their foe would be someone who wasn't aiming to kill them, he couldn't help but feel belittled by how laid-back the Sunagakure shinobi was about all of this. After having not been able to do much in his exam match, Kazu was starting to be fed up with not doing anything.

I'll show you not to underestimate us! Kazu pledged to himself, moving over towards the new area in order to show the rest of his village everything that his training had been for. For Ayano, Maia, and all the others that he needed to fight for, he was going to give it his all!

"What I want to know is... why? Why did you spare me? And that wasn't the only time, either..."

One blue eye focused on the Suna-nin from over her shoulder, watching him with an appraising gaze. Why? Because I... she thought, but her words were much more playful behind their distorted tone. "Hm...well, you didn't start out all that dangerous, I guess..." she started, bringing a finger up to tap at her chin as though in thought. "The second time you could consider it a favor for a friend," she continued after a moment, letting her head turn back away from him, adjusting her gaze to the battle the Hokage seemed to be mostly handling. She took in a deep breath, then. "...but we're not that friendly. Three strikes and you're out, Cub." With that, she moved away to the edge of the wall, but Shingen spoke one more time.

"What is it you want from me?" His voice sounded confused still, as though he divined that she wasn't being entirely truthful. She paused, glancing down at the nervous faces of the individuals behind the gate, their own weapons and power at the ready. It turned into a beautiful meadow ahead of her, not Kemurigakure. The light was shining on the horizon, and so too was Shingen there, standing in the light like a sun, and each of the men in front of her cast long, dark shadows her way. They seemed anxious, if not downright terrified, but their resolve showed in their lack of shaking knees, in their refusal to simply lay down their weapons. In order to get to that place, that meadow beyond, she had to get beyond them. I just want to stand with you there.

"I want you to leave me alone," she finally replied, summoning up her resolve. It hurt to say. It hurt her to deceive him. It hurt her to make him stay there in that shining sphere and not just...bring it closer to her. But she had done that before, and when she touched it, it grew dimmer. Still, she thought that if she could make it to where he was on her own, then maybe...

That rush of bitter sadness turned to the anger that had been seething in her since Konoha - no, since before then. Amegakure? Yes, likely there. She hadn't been able to properly vent, and as she looked at the gathered teams of four, blue eyes narrowed.

The Fox stepped off the wall, landing lightly in the small courtyard below. The gate to her back, she spared a glance for the mechanism that operated them and the bar that locked them, then to the gathered ninja, who failed to act first. "I'm suddenly in a not so good mood," she announced to those gathered, "so don't blame me if you die." The provoking words were enough for a team of four to engage, one forming handseals while the other three leaped at her with fists and weapons. The Fox moved to meet them, but it was more like, to those gathered, she was suddenly in front of them, and the initial swing of kunai leveled at her throat turned aside with a block to the wrist. If one could see it, what unfolded next was a clinic on breaking points as the Fox shattered the radial bone where she had blocked with her left hand, right hand closing into a fist that broke forearm as the left snaked in and under said broken arm and snapped into the outside of the man's elbow. It, too, shattered as the right worked up the arm to break the bone just under the bicep, and the left wrapped around the now thoroughly broken arm. This done, she spun, wickedly fast, and pivoted on the ball of her forward left foot, throwing the man - still not even able to register the pain just yet - toward his ninjutsu focused teammate, who reacted predictably. That is to say, they didn't react at all, smashed to the ground by the body thrown her way. The other two, one swinging a roundhouse kick her way and the other moving to tackle her at the waist, received the Fox's attention, then.

Foot met the sternum of the ninja attempting the tackle, a blur of motion that broke through the chest plate as the Fox made a hard block at the spinning kick, rolled her left arm around it, and struck the knee with three crunching blows, breaking the kneecap with the first and continuing to reverse the leg further with the other two. Time seemed to catch up to the original opponent, who began screaming and clutching his arm as the ANBU traveled forward with the leg in her grasp, forcing the newly crippled ninja onto his back. "It's tough, isn't it?" she asked aloud, to no one in particular. "Cruel, even," she continued, twisting the leg in her grasp until it slipped out of the hip socket with a strangely satisfying pop. She kicked him away and moved almost casually to the Ninjutsu specialist, recovering from being hit with the now flopping body of her teammate. With a single movement, the Fox reached out to the woman's hand, grasping it with enough force to snap her fingers, then wrenching the hand so that the wrist snapped. She, too, began crying, flopped over on her side, cursing the Fox. "You are taught that anyone can be strong. You're taught that, if you try and you work together, you can do whatever you want," she continued, snatching the arrow flying toward her out of the air and tossing it uselessly at her feet. Her blue eyes took in the archer, who, in a panic, fumbled to knock another arrow.

The earth shifted underneath her, and the Fox danced upward as it lowered dramatically, into a gigantic pit that quickly filled with flame. The girl landed light on her feet, seeming to simply teleport into place in front of the archer. "You try, and you try, and you try, and you think to yourself, 'I've become strong'," she continued, almost idly, as she snapped a brutal kick to the man's ankle, then leaned in and smashed her fist into the knuckles of his draw hand, shattering the tiny bones there. "But one day, God says, 'No. You are only human,' and shows you what Strength is," she continued as the man, screaming his pain and rage, drew a knife from a concealed sheath under his quiver and raised it in a slash. The Fox twisted that hand, striking the outside and the wrist at the same time and causing the knife to drop. She caught it, and in one movement severed the pulling muscles in the forearm and bicep, then dropped the knife as the man's arm fell limp. With a shove of her foot, he toppled from his perch atop the gatehouse to the dirt below. It wasn't a long fall, but he fell silent as he landed, unconscious. "...and you realize it was all a lie. You're only human. You could never have become Strong. God blesses only some of us," the Fox continued, hopping down from the gatehouse. Instead of attacking, the enemy ninja had begun grouping up, trying to figure out a strategy. "But take heart. I'm taking 'that which makes you ninja' today. You are human. Live like it."

The rest of her motion was, from the outside, a non-movement, so fast and furious that it seemed they all simply dropped at once, some simply unconscious, others gripping ruined hands and arms, others paralyzed from the waist or even the neck down - but they were all alive. They could likely even be healed, but they would never reach this level of ability again - they would never be useful as ninja. With that, she moved to the gatehouse, tapping the mechanism that caused the gate to swing open. It did, and, her work finished, the Fox glanced back at the various battles. Wiping a bit of blood from the exposed skin of her face, she moved into the village.

The "Kemurikage" deftly moved to avoid the strike, though she had severely misjudged the power behind the attack; as the staff crashed into the ground below, the surface gave in a big way. With an earth-shattering kaboom, where the pair stood buckled before large clumps of debris shot in all directions. With the commotion, combined with Kanari's watchful eye, he shot forward across the new crater, over the other shadow clone and away from the twins' strike.

Launching forward into the expected calamity, the nearby clone pressed forward and jumped over where the Handsome Hokage once stood in order to push the Rasengan into its mark. It would be met, however, with a growing electrical field that enveloped and poofed the clone. This information immediately shot to Kanari who began to pull his thumb to his mouth before the second clone in front of him poofed in kind. His eyes suddenly widened as he knew he had no time to backpedal. Instead, his body immediately shot into the air, narrowly avoiding the spreading mist despite his incredible speed. The other clone, distracted by Shingen and the genin, was also caught up in this attack.

She's tougher than I expected... Kanari thought to himself, biting at his thumb and extending it forward. In a fourth poof, this time in the Handsome Hokage's favor, the Monkey King himself would be summoned to the battlefield.

"Wha-!" Enma would start before descending into free-fall. He was soon caught by nape of his shirt. "Damn it, Kan!" He yelled out before quickly transitioning into the staff he predicted Kanari would need. Catching the large weapon beneath his left armpit, he pointed it to the Pairkage below.

"Extension." Just like that, some 30 meters in the air, the staff rapidly increased in length. Aimed directly at their faces, the staff would seem to widen before becoming apparent that it was approaching in an attempt to catch the twins below off-guard.

What power! Rumi cursed that fact, her and her sister's eyes open wide at the sight of the ground shattering like glass under the full weight of the Hokage's staff. Trying their hardest, they could keep up with him, but to move that fast while boasting that much strength? The man was monstrous in regards to his physical ability. It had been a long time since Tane and Rumi fought someone as strong as the Hokage. Instinctively, Rumi's hands shifted in front of her face to protect the Kemurikages from the incoming debris. Smaller rocks were blocked by the arms, while the larger and faster-approaching ones were rapidly cut down to size via Rumi's scalpels until they no longer posed an issue. Still, the unexpected development was enough to stall any further advance until they had safely struck their landing. Fortunately, Tane's lightning mist succeeded in warding off the numerous clones that threatened them.

In the blink of an eye, Kanari had already moved onto his next strategy. Floating up into the air, a puff of smoke beget the appearance of a large, furry monkey, capable of transforming itself into a bulky staff. This isn't good ... Tane mentally stated the obvious, observing the tactical position that their foe had taken. With flight, his range of maneuverability was greater than ever. With the speed that he possessed, hoping to strike him with any sort of Ninjutsu from a distance was destined to prove pointless. Without any probable chance of defeating the man from distance, they had to find a way to close the distance. The sky, however, was not their domain. Tane and Rumi hesitated a brief moment in order to analyze the situation and come up with a plan.

Before they could come up with anything, the yellow-tipped staff gradually began to expand down towards them. It was difficult to notice in the first moment, but the twins' keen attention to detail and their understanding of their opponent's fighting style led to a quick discovery that the otherwise-still Kanari was even then closing the distance towards a hit. Peddling towards the side with precise timing to avoid the monkey staff and place some distance between her and the impact zone, Rumi kept her wits about her, ready to hop into the air to avoid the terrifying force if her pace alone couldn't escape that dangerous strength. With her hands still near her front, she braced herself to slice away whatever chunks of earth were flung in her direction.

Up there! Rumi devised a risky plan, and immediately Tane began to muster her chakra in preparation for another defensive ability. The moment Enma was situated into the ground and the surrounding area had settled enough for Rumi to cross it(a task that would prove easy enough for someone with her level of grace), the Kemurikage bolted forward, intending to cross onto the elongated staff. Rumi knew full-well that the staff was actually a living being that served her opponent, but for now the monkey king would serve as a bridge to link the twins to the flying Hokage. Chakra coated the bottoms of her sandals. With unimaginable speed, Rumi hoped that she could cross a significant portion of the staff before the monkey king could react(doubting it to be as speedy as her or its master).

Either way, Tane was ready to intercept. Again, lightning fluxed around her being, this time at a much shorter range, but far more heavily-condensed. Whereas before a single bolt of lightning would zig-zag through an open space, now onlookers would see multiple in close proximity at any one time. The current of lightning chakra would shock those around the twins, specifically the monkey king they traversed upon. The intense discharge of lightning was potent enough to cause muscles to contract and entire bodies to go stiff. Hopefully with that, Rumi's passage would be safe.

Continuing with her previous strategy, Rumi rushed to engage the Hokage at close-quarters, chakra scalpels at the ready several feet in front of her hands. As soon as she got near the Handsome Hokage, her arms would swing towards him. First, her left hand swung diagonally from her top-left down across her body, and then her other hand would mirror the motion. Now knowing that the Hokage could so easily fly, striking the legs to immobilize him became a lesser concern-- with the power and speed behind his staff, the arms had become the twins' main focus. The scalpel strikes were aimed to tear into the arm muscles between the elbows and shoulders. Were it to be that the twins failed to reach their target as a result of the staff beneath them disappearing or being disconnected from them, Rumi would instinctively begin to build up chakra of her own without so much as a single hand seal as soon as she lost footing beneath her.

The Handsome Hokage certainly wasn't the best at predicting the actions of others, but it certainly helped when they played into his hands. This was a ploy the pair had done before in wars passed, to present a simple means for enemy combatants to climb into the air to strike at the flying shinobi.

While the twins were fast, the Monkey King was quick witted. As he felt their feet run along his staff, the trap was laid. He only had a few instants, but at the precise moment they reached the center of the elongated weapon, the trap was sprung. In rapid succession, many clouds of smoke gave way to a lattice of interlocking staves that would cage Tane and Rumi and halt their mid-air approach. In kind, the many copies would begin to collapse in on themselves, squeezing the cage smaller and smaller until it could comfortably hold the twins with some room to walk around. Meanwhile, the Handsome Hokage had dropped the staff from his grip and retreated back as to avoid even getting close to the lightning.

While they were wise to coat themselves in such an electrical field, the "Kemurikage" were woefully ignorant of Enma's transformation. Even the legendary Kusanagi, a sword renowned for its ability to cut through almost anything, could only make the diamond-hardened Monkey King sore in this form. The prison then dropped from the air, falling freely towards the ground as sand began to pick up. A brief glance to the side and the sight of red chakra emanating from Seto's body was all it took for him to realize what was happening.

Fuck...

Kanari's eyes widened in fear; he had seen this before, by the river with Zan. If his assumptions were correct, he would be losing an ally while gaining an erratic and powerful enemy. In an instant, a shadow clone appeared at his side before immediately flying off beyond the village gate. It had not been long since Rei had done the same, and the Handsome Hokage would need her presence if the One Tails were to take control.

[Exit]

Until then, Kanari feared he was on his own versus the twins, the bunny and the beast. The deafening roar was all too familiar, an omen that evoked memories of their fight against the tanuki so long ago. Acting fast, Kanari descended from the sky on the opposite side of the village wall with the hope that it would stand against the incoming force that was being unleashed.

It seemed that the monkey king was full of tricks. While Tane and Rumi had expected for the staff to perhaps untransform in order to remove footing from underneath them, they hadn't expected it to multiply into dozens of staffs perfectly stacked into a box-prison around them. The sudden cage halted the twins' progression entirely. It's tough ... Tane noted to her sister, surprised that even the intense electrical currents that surrounded their body seemed to have no effect towards stopping the multitude of staffs from enclosing on them. Locked in there, the Kemurikages began to plummet down towards the ground, meaning they had to act fast.

One body isn't working, Rumi. Tane conveyed the thought as her body grew out of her sister's backside until it separated completely. Her attention turned towards one of the corners of their prison. Bringing her right hand up to chest level and balling it into a fist, the Kemurikage gathered chakra into the area. Tane exhaled sharply as her fist went crashing downwards towards one of the staffs that made up the flooring. While the monkey king may have been impervious to damage in this form, the twins doubted that he was unmovable. With magnificent force, Tane's fist would crash into the yellow tip. Chakra seeped from her fist in that precisely-timed moment. With how much power was backing her punch, the staffs would be effortlessly flung out from the stack. Rumi, meanwhile, deactivated the scalpels in her hand, having noticed that she could get no use of them now. That space created by the frighteningly powerful blow would then act as an escape point for Tane and Rumi to immediately hop through.

Falling down towards the grass beneath them, Tane and Rumi braced for landing. When the two touched down onto the ground, they immediately began to drop into a roll, carefully balancing their body positioning in order to most effectively redirect energy and suffer as little blunt damage as possible. As they rolled out of their fall and back onto their feet, they quickly created additional distance to ensure that they were not directly below the falling cage. Afterward, they assessed their situation. The fall hurt, causing their bodies to ache slightly, but it was nothing debilitating. Used to taking a beating, the two would press on. By now, sand was blowing wildly, a byproduct of the state of Konohagakure's Jounin that matched off against Kaoru. Peering over towards him, Tane and Rumi could see a thick veil of chakra over him, bright-red chakra swirling around his being. Dropping down to all fours, Tane and Rumi's eyes widened in surprise as they cursed the situation: a jinchuuriki losing control, now? The twins wished nothing more than to help keep him in check, but they knew that they couldn't divert from Kanari-- someone with his ability would cause massive problems if left unchecked.

Moving back quickly in order to create some additional distance between themselves and the crackling earth as it made its way towards the open gates, Tane and Rumi took one more look around at the rest of the field before making their choice. They peered over towards the walls to see if the Hokage would arise out from behind them to now reengage after the shockwave from the jinchuuriki subsided. Having left Enma over with them, it was possible that he would return to try to regain possession of his treasured staff. Having seen what it was capable of, the twins figured it would be impossible to try to take possession of it to use for themselves, meaning there was little purpose to taking it with them. They had no significant means of imprisoning it at the moment, and were they to smack it away with brute strength, it could no doubt just return to the battlefield on its own.

Assuming that the monkey king did not immediately return to his normal form (thereby presenting himself as a much closer target), the Kemurikages would turn their focus towards where Kanari had hidden behind the gates. Were it that he would reemerge, the twins would pause and see how he responded. If he did not come back into their sight, they would aim to run up the side of the walls, hopping up towards the top to look over the other end and locate their opponent. They didn't like their chances of being able to beat such a powerful foe, but the longer they could stall him and allow the civilians time to flee, the better.

[OOC: Apologies on the delay. In order to not make the timeline all wibbly wobbly, let's say that Seto reverts back to normal in the next round.]

With the harsh buffet at the gates subsiding, the Handsome Hokage was soon found floating above the gateway. Looking over to Seto, he hoped the clone could find Rei and that they could prevent disaster. His eyes fell to the twins below, now separated from their grotesque form and apparently waiting his next move. Resting on the ground behind them lay Enma in his staff form, the remnants of their escape from that turgid prison.

Impressive... Was a passing notion he held for an instant- there were more important things at play.

"Wait!" The Handsome Hokage shouted from above the ramparts. Once more, his eyes darted to the enraged jinchuuriki; above all else, they could not let the One Tails take control. "This threat prevents each of our people. Let's stop this conflict so that we can prevent unnecessary bloodshed!"

Kanari's words were earnest. If he wanted the population of the village to be annihilated, he would let the beast roam freely. That, however, was not his want. If he could help it, no Kemuri shinobi would lose their life on this day. RIP Sanosuke.

Surprisingly, no sudden moves came from the flying Hokage. Instead, he requested for a temporary pause to their conflict, drawing attention to the raging, red cloak of chakra that whipped wildly around the Konohagakure Jounin's figure. The jinchuuriki. Rather than allow for it to roam free as its power slowly tainted the Jounin's own willpower, Kanari hoped to immediately put a stop to it, negating the chance of progressing further into a full-fledged bijuu. By doing that, they would prevent even further danger to everyone present.

Rumi, at first, was wary of the proposition. What do you get out of this, Kanari? Her eyes shifted back and forth between the jinchuuriki and the Hokage. By preventing the bijuu from taking control over his shinobi, he stood to lose a massive source of firepower and destruction, one that would make defending the village while staving off the rest of Konohagakure's forces sound like an impossible situation. On the other hand, the Handsome Hokage had seen fit to bring Genin-- stopping the bijuu from rising up would act as a safety precaution to ensure that a large section of his forces weren't pit against something they couldn't handle.

Rumi, it's in our favor as well, isn't it? It buys us some more time, and right now, that's all we need. Tane pointed out, looking around to the various battlefields around them. Shingen faced off against the crowd of Genin, opting not to disable them but to merely occupy their time. Kaoru stood against the jinchuuriki, however that didn't seem like the most promising match-up. Kemurigakure's forces were inadequate for holding off the Fox from entering the village interior, and Tane and Rumi weren't making any ground against Kanari. Winning was a futile goal until they received some form of reinforcements.

"If you expect us to surrender, that's not possible. Our people are counting on us-- we can't stand down." Rumi called back, keeping her attention now on the floating Hokage. "Still, we can't ignore the threat to them ... A temporary pause on our battle, until after your jinchuuriki is subdued." That was the best deal that the twins could offer. Kanari did not seem to be the most gifted with words, leading Tane and Rumi to be unsure whether his own request involved their surrender or a brief respite as they suggested, so the terms had to be clarified. Still, it's nice of him to care about the safety of the civilians. Yeah ... If that's his intention, anyway. It was a thought worth thinking over when they had the opportunity.

Knowing that, should this be a trap, diving in head-first to subdue the jinchuuriki would leave the twins in an awkward pincer between the target and the rest of Konohagakure's forces, they waited back hesitantly, watching the events unfold for the moment. Surely, they wouldn't be needed to handle the conflict anyway-- the problem had only reached a bijuu's cloak, not the full size and destructive power of the caged beast. Certainly, Konohagakure could handle it.

The Handsome Hokage fluttered with a brief surge forward. His approach was stopped, however, with the arrival of the Fox; she and Kanari's clone always did work fast. He watched with bated breath as the situation seemed to calm and Seto returned to his normal form. A heavy sigh of relief escaped him as he turned back to face the twins.

A simple nod of approval at the pair's willingness to allow him the opportunity of stopping wanton destruction, the first sign of respect he had given them, was not all that Kanari could offer in his gratitude. Brandishing his staff in hand, the Handsome Hokage extended it towards the Kemurikages.

"Are you ready?" Kanari would ask, opting not to take advantage of this momentary lull with some sort of preemptive strike. It was simply the honorable thing to do.

Should they ask in the affirmative, however, it was back on. That would be all Kanari would need for two things to happen: The first would be the Handsome Hokage surging downwards and sweeping the staff towards Tane's head following through towards Rumi's. Should this be avoided, however, the head of the staff would simply be drove into the ground. Simultaneously, the prone staff-form Monkey King behind them would take this as his cue. Levitating into the air, the Adamantine Staff would spin rapidly before moving forward to strike at the back of their knees.

The twins watched the events unfold on the adjacent battlefield. However, it was not the jinchuuriki's miraculous burst of willpower overcoming the evil cloak of chakra surrounding him that caught the Kemurikages' attention, but the arrival of unexpected allies-- shinobi from Kirigakure. They came to our aid! Tane's lips curled into a smile, thankful that the suicide squad was not left without backup anymore. Hopefully with their help we'll be able to turn this around. The twins remained passive while the Hokage turned his focus back towards them. A silent nod came from the handsome man. To express his gratitude, he did not strike immediately, choosing instead to honorably ask if the twins were ready to resume their match.

Would have been nice if they had asked that days before this war ... Rumi quipped, leading Tane to take the lead on offering a proper response. "A chance to get ready again? How kind of you, Hokage." She thanked him as both her and her sister capitalized on the moment. Rumi's hands came together, going through the creation of a few hand seals slowly in order to avoid alarming Kanari. As they had been before, Rumi's hands became coated in a sharp, jagged aura of chakra. Her brought her hands in front of her as she readied her stance, armed with scalpels to face off against their opponent. Tane, on the other hand, did not require much preparation. Tane simply dropped down into a combat stance as well.

Tane, behind us. I'll leave the monkey to you. Rumi warned before opening her mouth. "Alright, let's continue our fight." As soon as those words were spoken, chaos struck the battlefield once more as Kanari began to swoop down, closing the distance between the three shinobi. Immediately, Tane pivoted around, turning back towards the staff and darting off at high speeds towards it. Rumi, meanwhile, took her spot, positioning herself between Kanari and her sister in order to separate the two while chakra gathered at the mouth. Tane charged swiftly back towards the now-levitating staff, closely observing the speed of its rotation to locate an opening. Tane closed the distance, moving in shortly after one of the staff's tips had passed by her direction. With heavy concentrations of chakra built into her fists, the woman lashed out, striking towards the center of the staff. If her punch met its target, a terrifying amount of force would be unleashed, the sound of the blunt impact echoing in the air. Not only did Tane hope to counter Enma's attack by her own overpowering force, but she also hoped to send it flying far, far away from their battle.

Rumi kept her watchful eyes on the figure of the Hokage, watching as he swung his staff down towards her. With all the grace and precision that she was capable of, the woman timed her dodge down to the last second, tucking her head down and stepping inward to allow the staff to narrowly soar over her being. Now in close proximity, Rumi's arms shot up-- one mirroring the Hokage's staff-hand to slash towards the upper arm while the other arm aimed to cut across the chest. As she did, her head raised, revealing a lowered jaw and static within. A devastating bolt of lightning would shoot out of her mouth, aiming to pierce directly through the man's stomach. Were it to be avoided, a secondary strip of lightning would branch off of the main one, forcing a second dodge or block in order to fully escape harm.

Now knowing the full strength of the Hokage, Rumi knew to expect a devastating crash against the ground immediately after her assault, and prepared accordingly. With expert balance, she would do what she could to maintain balance, and readied herself for the barrage of debris. If Kanari decided to back off in order to dodge, or even gave Rumi a moment to move freely, the woman would dash out of the area, ducking and fleeing out to Kanari's right in order to distance herself from the center of that monstrous impact, turning and cutting whatever pieces of earth came flying at her into even smaller, less-threatening pieces.

All along, it seemed, they anticipated the Monkey King's continued involvement. Seeking to launch him far from the battle, Tane's strike aimed true. In this world, however, aiming true was not always enough. From the ramparts, a startling sight would appear shooting through the air in a direct line for where Enma began to fly rapidly. Catching it from above and behind about a dozen meters from the initial strike, a shadow clone of the Handsome Hokage himself continued its descent before landing with a flourish to face the offending twin once more. The Monkey King wasn't out of this yet. Rapidly and while the original was dealing with one twin, the clone approached the other but kept its distance.

As for Kanari himself, his journey would be a little more treacherous. It was only thanks to his keen eyes and sharp reflexes that Kanari would not fall completely for the twins' feint. Despite his bull-rush, Kanari managed to swerve his trajectory and roll like some sort of identified Sith Lord, crashing into the ground just out of range of Rumi's scalpels. At least, that what he aimed to do. The weapon would strike the earth, sending a massive amount of energy deep underground. It wouldn't allow much by way of crater creation, however, as a bolt of lightning came shooting from one of the Kemurikage's mouth.

Eyes flared, the Handsome Hokage was hit square in the stomach and launched backwards with intense force towards the wall jutting out from the gate. With a severe bounce, forcing the Hokage's limbs backwards, he gasped in shock and pain as his body trembled with the lightning for a moment- his staff gripped hard with the currents traveling through him.

It didn't take long, however, for his searing eyes to return to the woman that had finally laid a strike on him. That's when he heard it, the quaking. That's... Not mine... Within instants, the ground opened with absolutely massive and fast moving roots. It was Ayano's jutsu, apparently on steroids, and of these gargantuan and entangling trees, many surged through the area of the gates, even threatening to crush or ensane the Kemurikages as it crashed through the entrance to the village like wet butter.

As they approached, Kanari felt that it was time to end this. In unison, he and his shadow clone wove a single hand seal before the twins would find themselves plunged into a trembling and soporific world of darkness. All the while, Kanari would shoot straight into the air to avoid the destruction of the gate itself. The clone would jump onto one of the roots themselves before running along its length as an ally to place itself near the original.

One twin found success, while the other's efforts were mostly nullified. Though Tane was able to deal a massive blow to the monkey king in his staff form, an unaccounted for doppelganger of the Hokage swooped in with perfect timing, taking hold of the staff and managing to stop its momentum without any major difficulty. Rumi, fortunately, managed to catch Kanari off-guard with her surprise change in tactics-- the bolt of lightning in conjunction with her usual close-quarter strikes managed to find its mark against the Hokage's body, sending him flying back in pain. Rumi couldn't help but grin smugly at the accomplishment. Even if they were to go down in this fight, it could at least be said that they put up a challenge.

Suddenly and without warning, the ground quaked. The overwhelming sound of earth crackling and being torn apart beneath their feet sharply tainted the air. Knowing that whatever would happen in the next instant was not something that the twins wanted to remain in, they immediately began to prepare. Chakra flowed through their bodies, altering their vibrational frequencies to match that of the ground beneath them. As the terrifying forest began to emerge, Tane and Rumi sunk down into the ground. However, their retreat did not come to completion before another unexpected develop occurred: the world turned pitch-black.

Tane, I can't see! Rumi shouted telepathically. Tane didn't respond right away, instead focusing her chakra in order to attempt to solve the issue. Nothing had hit her or her sister, yet they were both experiencing the same problems. Her first instinct said that this was a Genjutsu. The flow of chakra within her attempted to purge whatever it was that was ailing her ... To no effect. Genjutsu Kai doesn't work. She explained before issuing a command: Go right! She, meanwhile, moved to her left and conveyed it to her sister. With the twins' backs to each other, this brought them in the same direction. The coordinated movement ensured that they still knew where the other was in this darkness even as they weaved around the roots of the newly-grown forest. It has to be a trick ... I can't pinpoint anything wrong with myself. Rumi noted, both of the twins using all of their medical experience to run a diagnostic over possible issues with themselves. Nothing should have robbed their vision without their knowledge of it.

There was only one solution they could think of: if it wasn't an easily-noticed internal issue, and Genjutsu Kai couldn't break them out of it ... They would have to start guessing at a cure. They could run a heal over their entire body, and they could induce pain. The latter made more sense to try first (as they could heal up any damage if needed). Turn, and then on the count of three, rush forward and strike? 1 ... 2 ... 3! The moment the number was mentally spoken, both Tane and Rumi dashed in the direction they knew each other to be. With great strength, the twins both whipped out a strong punch towards the stomach of the other. Grunts of pain escaped Rumi, while Tane struggled as the breath was knocked out of her. The two were each knocked backwards, backs crashing against a settled root. Suddenly, their vision returned to them. Fuck, that hurt ... Rumi grumbled, slowly moving towards her sister as she recollected herself. Truly, their own strength was much greater than that of what they were used to taking.

Now, we can continue. Side-by-side, the twins rose up out of the ground finally, filled with pain but otherwise able to battle once more. As their heads popped out of the ground, the new world around them stunned them into momentary silence. Where once there was a plain road, some trees, and their large, metallic gate, there was now an overgrown forest. Branches, trees, and vines were everywhere. If it weren't for parts of the gates still being visible underneath all the wood that covered them, Tane and Rumi wouldn't even be able to recognize their home. Past the gates, things looked no difference. Destruction ran rampart through their village. A green, hazy pollen polluted the air, finding its ways into Tane and Rumi's lungs before they had realized it and prepared themselves. A feeling of fatigue began to tug at them, pulling them down towards unconsciousness. No!! They both shouted in unison to rally the other. Through their unshakable will, their burning desire to see this conflict through until the end, they resisted the lulling feelings of the pollen.

Unable to see the Hokage or his clone under the thick forest (and particularly the multitude of branches that had settled overhead), the twins moved to stand back-to-back, each keeping watch over part of the area around them in order to make sure they weren't caught off-guard. Appalled by the scene in front of her, Tane yelled out, knowing that the Hokage could hear her wherever he was nearby. "Is this what you think is just, Kanari?! Destroying the lives of all those who call this land their home ... Is this really what you wanted?" Though she couldn't see most of her village past the gate area, she could see no end to the newly-created forest. Any building she saw that wasn't destroyed was completely ensnared in those blasted trees. "Despite what you may think of me, of Rumi, or my predecessors, there are good people who call this place their home. What makes this okay to you?!" Emotion filled her voice, anger and sadness welling up inside of her. It was the pain of being unable to defend a second place that she came to think of as home. It was the fear of letting down all that her late-husband had worked to achieve.

Kanari turned to watch the Kemurikages fumble through the trees as they found each other once more. A peculiar ability... It seemed to him that they had some way of coordinating, perhaps even communicating, without words. These two continued to be more than met the eye. It was then that his eyes flared slightly at the sight of them rising from the earth; but something was different, they were in pain. It seemed their only way out of the genjutsu was through the infliction of pain... Between that and simply being able to will themselves out of the pollen that descended around them, Kanari had to concede that their resolve was strong.

As they struggled to their feet, the Hokage descended behind an engorged root to hide his location, rapidly preparing for his next move. With a nod, the nearby clone returned Enma's staff form to his hand along with a small pill. With the sudden poof of that clone, Kanari became aware of the exact circumstances of the other encounter.

From behind his rooted cover, he poofed every clone he had made previously. Likewise ingesting the pill, much of the Handsome Hokage's chakra returned to him. As soon as the clones disappeared, four more took their place at Kanari's side. Also in flight, they each took this moment, as the twins started to speak, to reach their positions.

"Is this what you think is just, Kanari?! Destroying the lives of all those who call this land their home ... Is this really what you wanted? Despite what you may think of me, of Rumi, or my predecessors, there are good people who call this place their home. What makes this okay to you?!"

"This is no justice for what I am doing here today," Kanari started loudly but with a somber tone. Rising from his position in front of them, he would address them plainly in this brief parlay. Even he had his doubts that his actions here made him the "good guy." However, that did not change the fact that he felt that what he was doing was ultimately for the greater good.

Snaking with careful movements along the backs of the engorged roots that now encircled the area, the clones moved unseen and unheard behind a root just behind the pair relative to Kanari. The awaited their moment, knowing it well. With a slight frown detracting from his otherwise intense gaze, the Handsome Hokage continued: "The same thing, I will do what I have to do. For this world and people."

It was at that moment that the ground the twins stood upon began to rumble once more. This time, however, it would not be an impending arboreal assault. No, this quake was far less generally intense; but, what it lacked in scale, it made up for in disruption. The twins would find their motions awkward and sluggish as their bodies made inane attempts to compensate for this trembling.

At the same time, with the twins distracted by the Hokage to their front and the commotion below, two of the clones behind them would rise from behind the engorged root at their backs. Some 10 meters high, one would rush towards the pair from above while the other wove two simple seals. Once more, the twins would be plunged into a world of trembling darkness. Soon after, Tane would find a staff swinging wildly towards her head nigh instantly after hearing the crashing of branches directly overhead. It sought, simply, to knock her to the dirt and out of consciousness. This attack would take place almost immediately after the ground began to shake and Kanari was confident that, this time, there was little they could do.

Rising out from behind one of the roots in front of Rumi, Kanari answered the questions posed to him. As always, it was hard to completely decipher what the man was trying to say, but ... It sounded as though he knew that what he was doing was not just. Yet, the man held firmly to his beliefs, continuing on to explain that he did what he felt he had to do for the rest of the world. While there was some respect to be had for his dedication to doing what he felt was best for the world as a whole, there was also disdain to be had for his misguided prejudice against the people of this land. Rumi would had commented on that if he had given them a moment to, but without time to spare after his words landed, the ground began to rumble ferociously.

Despite how coordinated the twins were in moving their bodies, the fierce shaking was more than they could handle efficiently, putting a massive damper on their ability to continue moving. In that moment, the twins immediately knew that they were going to be thrown onto the defensive. Against someone as physically overwhelming as the Hokage, having their ability to move so greatly robbed from them was dangerous. Knowing that their positions had been compromised in that moment, chakra began to throw through both of the twins' bodies. It couldn't have been in better timing; shortly after, their vision went black once again due to that blasted Genjutsu. While Rumi hadn't seen anything abnormal from the front, Tane caught a slight glimpse of the rising Hokage clones before her vision abandoned her. Without vision or ease of movement, Tane braced for impact.

Behind! Tw-- The woman's arms moved up to her head, knowing that the Hokage's taller stature and his preference for striking from the air made it likely that an incoming attack would be aimed higher on her own body. Despite how efficient her movements were, the speed at which she could move couldn't hope to compare to the Hokage's, resulting in her only being able to barely position her arm to take the blow instead of her head. Even then, her positioning wasn't fully finished by the time the staff crashed against her. The force of the impact caused Tane to let out a yelp of pain as her body was tossed over to her left. Immediately, she could tell that the attack had broken her right arm as she tumbled across the dirt.

Rumi, having heard her sister's warning prior, had begun to gather chakra into her body. Without the ability to see, she would be hard-pressed to land any sort of aimed attack on whatever had come from behind her, so her tactic would be one that required no aim. Without warning, strips of electricity burst from all around the Kemurikage's body, emitting a high-pitched hum as it zapped everything surrounding her. With the Chidori Current active, she hoped to shock whatever had assaulted her other half.

Although Tane had been struck down onto the dirt some ways off, this was not the end of her fight. The crippled bones in her arm that had been struck began to repair themselves, erasing the damage as if nothing had harmed her in the first place. In fact, her muscles only appeared to bulge slightly. It was then that her body dropped down into the ground, phasing through via the Attack Prevention Technique. With her vision restored as a result of the intense force and broken limb, the woman crept around underneath the ground, moving towards and behind where she had remembered the Hokage last appearing. Her body came back into view as she sprouted out of one of the higher branches in the area without a sound. While the man had risen high, her high perch gave her enough elevation that with a jump, she could make it to him without much issue.

It was a risky maneuver to be sure, one that could leave her far more exposed than she preferred, but the twins were quickly running out of ideas for how to catch the man. Assuming the man had still not located her, Tane would leap off of the branch with all of the strength she could muster, launching herself towards the Hokage's back in order to deliver a devastating punch to the middle of his spine. Chakra welled up at the tip of her fist, ready to burst the very instant contact was made to empower the punch to a devastating level.

A solid strike forced the shinobi from her feet and to the ground with an arm quite broken. This slight victory was not to remain, however, as her muscles engorged and she seemed to be far from out of the fight. Regardless, knowing the proclivity for the Kemurikage to surround themselves in lightning, the clone landed with a soft foot before kicking off immediately to escape the range of the incoming Chidori Current. The four other forms of the Handsome Hokage watched as the formerly injured twin disappeared into the ground.

Formidable... Kanari thought before his attention was drawn to a shout coming from his back. With a glance over his shoulder and roots blocking his vision, the Handsome Hokage shot rapidly in the air. A sharp spin and a sudden sharp sent the robes beneath his armor fluttering as his eyes fell on the crystallized Seto. "Fuck..." He sighed quickly under his breath as he bolted from the scene. With the ground continuing to quake, this action would be completed well before the previously proned twin would even approach flying from the roots.

Seeing the departure of the main, two of the clones would dash along the roots to accompany the Handsome Hokage. Only two would remain to watch over the remaining twin.

[Exitx3]

The other two, however, would keep an eye on the sparky boi(girl) to make sure she didn't try anything fishy.

The attempt at a surprise attack was foiled before it had even begun. As Tane arose from within the tree branch, her eyes caught a glimpse of their opponent moving hastily towards the battlefield beside them where Kirigakure had challenged the rest of Konohagakure's forces. Him and two clones have gone over there, Rumi. The triumphant call of one of the allied shinobi beget a temporary halt to the conflict. This forced peace came from a hostage; Tane and Rumi couldn't see who it was that was captured, but someone had been captured, and was now being held prisoner as leverage against the Handsome Hokage. Seeing that they had fled, the twins had a moment to catch their breaths.

With less urgency than she had been moving with throughout the rest of the battle, Tane made her way over towards her sister on the ground, who had just deactivated the lightning around her being. It's a good thing Kirigakure came through. She noted, taking the opportunity to breathe in and out deeply. I hate to say it, but ... It was only a matter of time before he would have had us down for good. Pft, have some faith, Tane. We could have pulled through. Rumi's pride kept her from admitting anything more than the fact that they were in a tough spot. Assuming that the remaining two clones that watched over them weren't intending on interfering, Tane moved to help her sister be released from the darkness. After preemptively building medical chakra into her arm, Rumi's arm was snapped, summoning forth enough damage and pain to return her vision. She tried her best to stifle the pain, aided by the immediate healing that ran through the injury.

With things settled here, it didn't seem like there was any particular reason for them to remain in this area. It was clear that all of the important action had shifted over towards the parallel battleground some ways away. Turning to the clones, Rumi called out to them: "Will you be trying to stop us from going over there as well?" "It only makes sense for us to be present in the negotiations." The twins waited to see the clones' answers. Hopefully, they wouldn't make things difficult; as the Kemurikages, they felt their place at the talks as a representative of their people was well-warranted. Assuming they weren't met with any signs of obstruction, the twins would move towards the direction that Kanari had gone. Still wary, Tane and Rumi would still keep their attention on the clones behind them and the rest of their surroundings, intending to prevent any sudden ambush.

Once they were a safe distance away and close to the next area, the twins would deactivate their techniques. Now was a time to conserve chakra.

~Potential Exit~

We leaving this village like a freaking normie.
No teleportation required.
If no further orders are issued, she'd get back to her original mission.
No one to claim CP with, so why the five sentences?
It is the principle of the thing.

Enishi rubbed his head with a slight grimace on his face, his memory cloudy with only fragments to tell what had happened to him. He had OD’d outside the village and subsequently fell into a coma. For how long it was hard to tell, the foreigner who had found him and kept him alive didn't speak the same language. The seasons had changed the only indicator that he had been out for quite some time.

The young-man walked slowly along the path towards his home, contemplating what he would tell his superiors. A burning sensation covered his back working its way into the mind, altering his thought pattern.

He had no choice but to lie and hopefully be accepted back into the ranks of kemuri. Should they suspect his absence to be that of a traitor the punishment would be death if not from his own village surely the seal would force his demise.

The boy rounded a bend his village coming into sight for the first time…. He stopped in his tracks. ‘What…. What the fuck happened!’ his mind raced as he approached what was left of the the outer wall. Sounds of sawing and construction filled the air as he got closer. He sighed in relief it wasn't all gone, the people had survived…… at least some of them.

The boy entered the village with a solemn look on his face, if he could turn n run he would. His presence would only speed up Kemuri’s demise. Regardless he had no choice in the matter. An irresistible urge to find out about the state of affairs burned within, he could not deny its will.

(exit to find Tane-Rumi)

Uchiha Rei
Walking into a village at night, in the rain, would normally be a difficult thing - but one well-versed in both stealth and the chakra suppression technique found very little to deal with. She moved with purpose, avoiding the men posted there with deft movements that had not been used in years and, thus, were not being watched for. The sensory blanket bypassed, Rei slipped into the village, no sabotage or assault in mind - she was here for investigation, nothing more. Hopefully she could conclude her business and be done quickly.
