Ever since he had seen the Raikage train his students Flay had been interested in sparring with the man. Though either by letter of request or asking one of his students for help sparring with the Raikage, The strongest man in the village had alluded him.
Still today had been going well for him, he had actually managed to get his sister to agree to helping him and even Sulphur seemed a little fired up at the prospect. All that was left to do was to challenge him to a spar in person.

Walking into the room, the Receptionist begins with the scripted opening question, "Yes Mr. Flay what seems to be your business with the acting Raikage today?" to which he responded with, "I wish to challenge him to a spar", a degree of confidence in his voice, before ultimately getting smacked out with, "The Raikage is busy with important matters at the moment you will have to come back at a later date."

Crushed in one swift move all that leaves his mouth is, "Oh" as Anna puts her arm on his shoulder and unhelpfully monotones out, "let's go home."

Flay 235/250
Anna 235/250

Sitting with hands entwined, Haruko stared out of the window that overlooked Kumogakure. It had been a few days since Shang placed her in temporary charge. Those days had been filled with far more paperwork than she would have thought imaginable. The role of Raikage had seemed so illustrious, a position that many had striven for all their lives, but now that she sat behind the desk she almost pitied her leader. It was no wonder he had decided to take a break and travel for some time. Lena had been a godsend in this time, helping the samurai more than she could ever thank the woman for. Turning to face her aid, Haruko smiled softly. "Eh, I think I need some fresh air, I hope you don't mind covering for me for the time being?" Lena laughed once and nodded, understanding the situation without needing to speak over it. Haruko stood and bowed, "Thank you for being such wonderful help."

Hurriedly the samurai gathered her things and made her way toward the door. Her only stop in the office was against the near wall where her swords had been lined up, grabbing only a handful, and then she was off.

Making her way down the stairs, the normally quiet building was suddenly filled with a voice she was not quite familiar with. As she rounded into the room she noticed two very similar looking people. A man and a woman stood but it seemed the reason for them being in the area lie solely on the man. Her eyebrow raised as he mentioned wanting to spar Shang. She realized that she had never had a chance to spar against her Raikage either but that was neither here nor there.

Clearing her throat she took a few steps closer. "Lord Shang is currently disposed but he left me in charge during his absence. Perhaps I could take his place in this spar you're wanting to have, ehe?" She offered, both to placate the man but also, mostly, so she could stretch her own limbs and get some exercise. The last few days of just sitting had been the most inactive she had been in over a decade and her muscles were growing tense from their lack of use.

Nearly jumping at the introduction of a third party Flay began to mumble and stutter before, Rose, was who sitting on Anna's shoulder interrupted as she couldn't resist her chance to tease flay from his fright, "Come on Flay, really!; She wasn't even trying so please pay attention." Flay blushed and turned away from the cat and refocused himself on Haruko as she continued to give her offer. Immediately after flay heard the offer his face brightened with excitement before he turned to see his sisters response.

Anna who had been dealing with this for a few months now had gotten utterly fed up with Flay's constant desire to get into pointless combat with the Raikage. But ultimately she knew that if she turned him down here it would just add more fuel to the fire. Still this would give her a chance to try something new. Fighting for her hadn't been the same since she became a jinjuriki as it meant she could no longer fuse with Rose. "You know if i am stuck here i will never share this body with those two felines, so you'd best just get used to it or find a way to let me go." rumbled a voice within her cutting off her thoughts. "You think you can stop me" she thought back in irritation.

All of this thinking condensed in a sharp glare she gave to her brother as he turned to look at her. Already aware of what he wanted to ask she responded, "fine but I get to be in control during the fight."

Flay slightly confused asked, "but i thought you couldn..." before he got cut off. "Take or leave it" she insisted with no room for argument.

"Fine" Flay finally let out before turning to Haruko with a big smile, "uh... So shall we go to the training ground then?"

Once again Anna interrupts with a telling smile; that clearly denotes she has fun shooting Flay down, "tomorrow. I want a flower" she finishes staring out of the office at the mountains outside the village as if she could see something far away.

Note:the cat's can't be understood by others besides flay and anna just sounding like meowing if the individual can't speak to animals.

[after Haruko's response unless otherwise indicated. Flay, Anna, Isobu, Rose, and Sulphur leave to get a flower and then visit the training ground]

Snapping out of a seeming daze, Haruko looks around. The sparring partner she had just met was nowhere to be found. Looking over to the receptionist she raised an eyebrow. A shrug was all she received in turn. With that, she decided to head out and see the village for a bit.

The soft clatter of footsteps against the floor of the Heaven Construct was familiar. For any Kumogakure denizen, the Heaven Construct was a familiar sight in the distance, a marker on the horizon that boldly stated the location. For a rare few, however, those denizens could become intimately familiar with the insides of the building, the prestige that came with frequent exposure to the Heaven Construct was unparalleled. For true Kuno-nin, the Heaven Construct wasn't simply the most prestigious place in the village, it was the most prestigious place in all the world. But, he supposed, the denizens of any given village probably thought that way about their kage's office.

In truth, it had been some time since the man had been to the Heaven Construct. He had been out of the village itself for some time, a few years now, and his return had been unannounced. Even his departure had been discrete; there were few who knew it, and fewer still who knew the reason. This now was his grand return, but there was no grand parade, no celebration that welcomed him home. His return was as quiet as his departure had been, and that was not only what he expected, but it is how he wanted it. He hated the spotlight, more often than not, and found himself well-suited to a life of shadow. He had seemed to adapt much better to the life of a shinobi that he ever would have expected to, given the lifestyle of a samurai that he had lived before. Time, it seemed, had a strange way of healing wounds, even if he had yet to find himself fully healed. Still, he felt his time outside the village had been a step in the right direction.

The samurai had made his home here many years ago, and he had grown more than fond of it. He knew that he loved it, but until he had left for so long, he had never quite how much that was true. The Heaven Construct seemed almost intimate now, a comforting and familiar touch after the foreign for so long. A smile crept upon his face as he tread the stairs towards his destination. It was a room that was familiar to him, too. A rare honor among even those that frequented this building, and he was grateful for that privilege, too. Even if it might not have seemed the case, as he lifted the cigarette from between his lips, exhaling a deep breath of smoke into the hallway. His first cigarette in sometime, and the rush of nicotine was almost uncomfortably pleasant, sending a shiver up his spine as he stood before the door. Placing it back between his lips, he took his still raised hand and brought it down against the door to the kage's office, with a series of dull, heavy thuds.

Rapping her fingers against the wood of her desk, the samurai looked out across the village. It was a view she had admired from opposite her current position too many times to count and yet, now on sitting in the seat of those who had lead her previously, it still looked as breathtaking as the first time she saw it. Her mind was busy as it had been nearly constantly since Shang had gone to visit the allying villages. With the run in of T behind her, she couldn't get her mind off what it meant to be a Jinchuuriki. The Tokubetsu Jounin she had pummeled that day represented a side to her that she was unaware of. Her time with Gyuuki had changed her as well as the seal that she had dipped into more times than it was likely she should have. Who was Haruko Fujiko before all of these gifts? She let out a sigh and steepled her fingers and let out a low sigh, "Eh, this is getting me nowhere." She breathed. A rumbling huff sounded inside her as Gyuuki lent her some kind of solace. Their time together had been enough for the Hachibi to know that now all that could be done for the woman was to allow her time to clear her head.

Leaning deeper into her chair, pale eyes moved from the window to the ceiling. Shang was still gone, Shizuka had passed some time ago, and Tetsujin was still unaccounted for but very obviously missing. It was unfit for a samurai to lead, her mind told her that, and yet Shang had left her in charge in his absence. "How did you manage back then?" She asked, thinking of when her old mentor had been exactly in her shoes. The man had been her link to the shinobi world in the beginning, having been the one to bridge her and the village upon her arrival over a decade ago. Slowly her eyes closed. "Would you even recognize me anymore?" In that instant the ink of her Curse Seal almost jumped from her skin. Her eyes jumped open as she sat up in her chair.

What is it? Came the voice of the Bijuu within. Her stare was fixed on the door before the knocks ripped through the room. I'm...I'm not sure. Even in her mind her response was stuttered and slow. She stood up from the chair and eased her way past the desk, her days of pretending to be clumsy far behind her as word of her abilities spread throughout the lands. Without a moment of wasted movement a demure hand twisted the knob of the door and pulled it open.

Wisps of smoke drifted to the ceiling as Tetsujin waited for a long moment for the door to open. He had kept are of the happenings in the village while he was gone. He knew that Shizuka had passed, a great shame it was, and that the village had since been governed by Shang. He had not met the monk face-to-face since he was appointed Raikage, though he had kept in some kind of small contact via letters with the Raikage. He felt some kind of kinship with Shang, both foreigners in a land they had come to call their home, neither of them a shinobi by birth. Strangers that had come to gain the trust of the Land of Lightning. They were both of an older generation, as well, two shepherds of the next generation.

The graying hairs on Tetsujin's arms seemed to suddenly stand on end, the eyes behind his spectacles narrowing slightly. Shang was not beyond the door - he knew that, his unnatural predilection having served him well all his life keyed him in well again. His heart rate increased, he could hear its beating in his ears. Time seemed to move in slow motion as the door swung open in a fluid motion, and the old samurai's mouth fell open, the cigarette falling from his mouth to bounce twice on the ground, rolling against the side of the door and trailing lines of smoke into the air, the doorframe now covered with stray bits of ash. A single word left his lips, his voice hoarse, more-so from rust rather than the nicotine. "Haruko."

The first thing she noticed was the cigarette. The familiar smell of burning nicotine was almost like coming home in some ways. It had been a constant companion in her long days of training under the man standing in the doorway, the man who had shaped her into who she was today. The trail of smoke wafted from the floor as a single word came from the long-missing Tetsujin's lips. Her lip quivered for only a moment before she balled her fists and a furious blush stained her cheeks.

"You're back, Tetsu, it's good to see you." She said through gritted teeth. A flurry of emotions tore through her since laying eyes on her old mentor. She was ecstatic to see him, so much so that she had nearly lept forward to embrace him the moment the door opened. She was also furious with him. He had left without a single word to her and, while it was hopefully on some kind of business for the village, that hurt was something she couldn't shrug. The man was like a second father to her and she struggled with what to do in the moment. As a compromise she decided to act according to the role she had gained since his absence.

"I am currently filling in for Lord Shang as he has business elsewhere. Please, come in." With that she turned and the moment her face left his gaze it wavered. This was not what she was expecting on such a mundane day, but it was a surprise she could tolerate if not embrace. She made her way behind the desk and took a seat, offering Tetsu his option of sitting or standing.

"Where have you been?" She asked, a mixture of command and plea in her voice.

Taking a first step into the room, Tetsujin paused for a moment, and for all his wisdom he could only begin to try and fathom the emotions that were running through Haruko in that moment. He could barely even comprehend the rush of emotions that had run through him, seeing his student, his surrogate daughter really, for the first time in so long. She turned away from him, offering a brief and quick explanation of events. The old samurai paused for a moment, before eventually leaning down and picking up the smoldering cigarette, crushing the bit of rolled tobacco in his palm, smothering the bit of flame that kept it lit. From there, he took a few more steps into the office, standing in the center of the room, he chose not to sit.

At her question, his usually stern and harsh gaze softened, becoming something much softer, more kindly, behind his heavy-rimmed spectacles. He shifted his weight on his feet slightly, intimately familiar with the other side of the desk, sitting as a samurai in the chair of a shinobi, as Haruko did now. Certainly, she had more a reason than anyone else to want to know an answer to that question. "That is a difficult question," he admitted with his gruff voice, hand coming to rest atop the handle of his sword. "Perhaps I'll show you later..." He trailed off, raising his other hand to scratch at his heavily bearded cheek. After a moment of silence, he spoke up again, a slightly rushed tone to his voice. "It's good to see you again," he commented, hurling the remnant of the cigarette into a nearby trashcan.

Standing here, as Haruko set at the desk between them, there was a sense of pride that welled up in the elder man. He was not getting any younger, that was certainly true. His once red hair, even having begun to gray, had deteriorated further, and the signs of age continued to work at him. His sword arm was neither as strong nor as swift as it used to be, and it was only his mind that really seemed to improve with age. It was heartwarming to know that the future generation, the ones that he would entrust this village to, were as capable as he had been in his youth. No, they were in fact more capable, if the stories he had heard of his students exploits were considered true. But then, he expected that they certainly were; he had felt them, in a strange way, as the occurred. When he heard the news and rumors of them, it was simply confirming things that he had already known.

"I'm proud of you."

Almost too predictably, Tetsu skirted around the question. A flare of anger burned in her chest for a moment accompanied by a rumbling from Gyuuki. She calmed them both with a considerable effort, though none showed on her face. Instead she nodded. Her time as an ANBU had taught her a great many things, one of which was that no matter the relationship there were some things that couldn't be said. Whatever it was that Tetsu stepped away for he would either tell, or show, her or he wouldn't and there was nothing more she could do. In truth there were quite a few things of her own she wished to show him. The fruits of the seal he gifted with her years ago and the newly formed friendship with the great Bijuu of Kumogakure. Perhaps they could trade such revelations in the near future.

Her train of thought was abruptly derailed as Tetsu turned the conversation intimate. As she opened her mouth to agree with his first statement, it was abruptly closed by the second. While she had not expected him to say it, the impact it had was much more unexpected. Perhaps it was due to his absence, as it was said to make the heart grow fonder, but his declaration filled her with pride of her own. It made her proud to do the man's teachings and time justice. Pride was often the downfall of man, but in this instance she could welcome it - if just for a moment at least. Composing herself took only a moment but she knew Tetsu wouldn't miss it. Older than the last time she saw him, she knew him well enough to not have slipped that far.

"Thank you," she said genuinely, "times have been strange since you left. I'm not sure what you have heard along your travels, stories tend to travel faster than I can keep up with. Eh, they also tend to stretch the truth to it's limits as I'm sure you know." She eyed him for a moment, gauging his reaction before continuing. "You said you had something to show me, the reason you were away? I would like to see it. Perhaps I can return the gesture. You're not the only one who has changed since that day on the beach, ehe."

As the two reconciled from their time apart, a messenger burst through the door. With him came news of Shang's return and a summons for Haruko. She nodded to the messenger before standing from the chair she had almost grown comfortable in. It was nice to have Shang back, it would allow her to get back to matters more fitting for a samurai. "It seems this meeting will have to be cut short. I'll be back soon enough, don't run off again." She said jokingly as she made her way around the desk. As she came to the man, she couldn't help but look up at him and smile before giving him a strong hug.

"It was great seeing you again, Tetsu."

She let him go, straightened the bow in her hair, and made her way to Shang.
