With his clothes still damp and his body covered in dust and debris from the explosion site, Shikaji made his way into the administrative building, expecting though not stopping to check, that Ayla and Chojiro weren't far behind him. Focusing for the first time on his transformed eyes, Shikaji strained in an attempt to return his eyes to their normal state, stopping by a mirror in the hallway to ensure that the change was successful. While he no doubt planned to report the sudden change in his eyes and the events of the gym earlier that day to the village at some point, he chose not to do so now. If he reported about that, the powers-that-be might have decided he needed to stay in the village for either study or recovery, but that was the last thing that Shikaji wanted. So, he decided that he would hide his condition for now, and disclose it later.
He made his way towards Konoha's elder council, the small group that governed the village's decisions in the absence of the Hokage, and gave a brief report of what had seemed to have occurred; the explosion, the message, and the discovery of a trail, though he made no mention of his eyes. With a bit of pressuring, he secured the permission of the council to follow the trail while it was still fresh. Shikaji had some experience with tracking, and Chojiro was his tag-team partner, so his permission was also granted. The Nara was unsure if Ayla would also manage to obtain permission or not; she was the best tracker the village had, but she was also one of the highest ranking and strongest shinobi left in the village. If whoever caused the explosion struck again, it was imperative that the village wasn't too weak to respond.
Still, Shikaji felt impatient. He was antsy to get moving; every second that they waited, the trail grew colder. With his new mission confirmed, he split off from the others, heading back to his clan compound in order to change clothes and gather supplies for the journey to come, but not before letting whoever was coming with him know to meet him at the gates within in an hour to head out after the enemy. Before departing from the group, Shikaji would give Chojiro a fist bump, and though he said no words, his once-more golden eyes made his meaning clear.
We can do this.
