Welcome to the Weekly Quiz, a series of polls and quizzes meant to drive community engagement, share a little bit about our characters, and generally get us thinking about them in ways that we haven't before.

Today's quiz is about another Alternate Universe that your characters could be a part of. If your character(s) were Gym Leaders, what would their team be? Would they be type-centric like Brock or would they mix and match their Pokemon?

I have thought a lot about this... even translating muh characters over to the PTU system.

Masaki oddly probably has a lot of electric squirrels (from his contract), despite himself being an elementalist. Pikachu (Kinsabi), Raichu (Akasabi), Pachirisu and perhaps others. I'd have to go back and look at the list I had for him lol. He might have something to represent each of his elements though.

Setsuko easily uses Machamp (representing his signature Embodiment of the Deities, also his physique) and Steelix (Kouton... I always wanted to make a Steelix technique for him too haha). Might also have something Earth based, and Dark/Ghost based (for the phantom moniker). Ursaring for the original Bear mask and his Anbu alias, and probably a Golbat or something for the new mask/identity he used.

Shouko would be a Fairy-type gym leader. The traps and tricks to her gym would probably require some kind of rhythm game or singing to get through. Her primary Pokemon would be Sylveon and she'd likely be one of the first two gyms young trainers would encounter. Her emphasis would be on having fun and treating your Pokemon with kindness. Her secondary would likely be Whimsicott.

Haruko would be a mix and match gym leader. There wouldn't be any fancy paths or puzzles to her gym, it would just be straightforward and honest. Her primary Pokemon would be Aegislash and she'd be somewhere in the middle of the gyms. Her emphasis would be on respect for your Pokemon and fellow trainers. Her secondary would be Octillery and her tertiary would be Tauros.

Mayuri would be a Poison-type gym leader. His gym would be littered with riddles and dead ends that would take time to break down. His primary Pokemon would be Venomoth and he'd be the sixth or seventh gym. His emphasis would be on intellect and strategy. His secondary would be Muk, his tertiary would be Weezing, and his quaternary would be Toxicroak.

Ty Lee would be a Dark-type gym leader. Her gym would be filled with mirrors and pit falls for no real reason. Her primary Pokemon would be Sableye and she'd definitely have a Sablenite to Mega Evolve it. Her emphasis would be on having fun for fun's sake and she'd be anywhere from first to final gym leader depending on how she felt that year. Her secondary would be Absol, tertiary would be Zoroark, and her quaternary would be Inkay.

Saya would be a Bug-type gym leader though her primary Pokemon wouldn't be of that type. Her gym would restrict you from switching during battle, meaning your Pokemon stayed in until it won or fainted. Her emphasis would be on growing stronger individually and that a group of strong individuals was better than a large group of average individuals. Her primary Pokemon would be a tie between Kecleon and Heracross, though the latter she would be able to Mega Evolve. She'd be a gym leader that you met early in the beginning but fought much later on. Her tertiary would be Ledian.

Kioko would be a Grass-type gym leader with heavy emphasis on flowery Pokemon. She'd be the first gym that you'd encounter but she'd have five Pokemon. She wouldn't have a primary or anything and all of her Pokemon would be the same level, either five or ten depending on how far into the story the first gym was. Her emphasis would be on following what makes you happy. Her Pokemon would include a Sunkern, Oddish, Roselia, Seedot, and Petilil.

Tsume would be a gym leader that focuses on Pokemon that use weapons. She'd be encountered relatively early but her Pokemon would be just a nudge overleveled for what you'd expect. Her emphasis would be on never backing down from a challenge and the trick to getting through her gym would be to push yourself past what you thought you could do. Her primary Pokemon would be a Marowak while her secondary would be Farfetch'd and her tertiary would be a Dewott.

Ayano would be a squirtle cus she's cute and likes water, urunobi would be a pikachu cus I couldn't really imagine her as anything else. Ran probably would be a gym leader that loves cats and dogs and eh my foreigner would probably just some monotone pokemon or gym leader tbh. I don't pokemon wtf is this. My crafter would be misty or however she's called tho, cus misty is bossy but also upbeat!

Cool info stuff found below:

Mizui would be a Water Gym Leader but would be more diverse and more theme centric then just pure water types. His team would be centered around Goodra and Rain Dance, with plenty of moves to synergize with the rain like Thunder and Hurricane. He would also have a Magcargo, Gastrodon, and Castform. The puzzles in his gym would be centered around the core concept of his battle strategy, requiring the player to navigate through surfing mazes and a series of buttons and levers that produce artificial wind. The end result would be creating a fake storm that slowly blocks off every section of the gym until a path towards him is created.

Hayate would likely be a mixed bag as well, instead of focusing on the types of Pokemon in his team it's the type of moves that drive him. All his Pokemon have Fighting-type moves though none of his Pokemon are of the Fighting type. Staraptor would be his main player with Close Combat (the best move ), followed by Cacturne, Electabuzz, and Pinsir. Not one to beat around the bush Hayate's gym reflects this facet of his life by giving a straight shot to him with a series of unskippable trainers. No easy mode in this gym gosh darnit.

Natsumi would be explosion and ranged based at the current state of her. I havent kept up on much pokemon since Gen 3 so idk what would fall into that category. Cause the last ones I remember are Electrorode the pokeball looking guy XD

Enkou would probably have Syther and Scizsor in his group. Slicey Slicey!

Both would be like mid-level gyms too

Flay would be a dual Steel/dark gym. His three pokemon would be Scizzor, Umbrion, and nuclear baariette
Flay's is pretty simple Sulpher would be a dark/steel type if he where a pokemon, so its fairly obvious he would pick pokemon that fit that category
His style of gym would be a straight forward path, but he would only battle you if you could convince Anna to participate. He is the type to hold back against those who are who lack confidence, hoping to help cultivate those who might bail on becoming pokemon master simply because of nerves.

Anna would be a dragon type gym, with Duneseraph, Kingdra, and Flygon

Rose would either be a normal or dragon type, but When i think of Anna i can't get the appearance of her as a dragon type trainer out of my mind. Isobu being a dragon turtle also helped me decide. That being said earth and water are her secondary elements in the tnrpg so i decided those would be the perfect subset to determine kingdra and flygon. Anna is the type to send people on a long term fetch quest like telling them to become contest champion or to go beat team rocket, before she will accept their challenge and if they seem to lack confidence or are particularly weak she won't take the battle seriously and will spam full restores to taunt her opponent.

Shiro would be specific to rock and ground types due to his doton element affinity. His pokemon would definitely include a Graveler or a Golem, an onyx or a steelix and a camerupt. Steel types would have quite a bit of population in the pokemon house and land that he would definitely have to let his pokemon play freely outside of their pokeballs but there is possibility that he might have a few mudkip or its evolutions due to its ground typing. But he would definitely have lots of other ones like a krookodile, an excadrill and other pokemon of the sort.

One things's for sure though: his favorite Ledgendary pokemon would be Groudon.

Ritsuki would be a mid-tier near end gym leader with her own style dungeon. Ritsuki would use heavily japanese based lore pokemon that she enjoyed. Her team would be Ninetales, Mawile, Blaziken, and Frosslass. Her gym would be filled with geisha and be a show that they're putting on, having to fight them all before you would fight Ritsuki. Each one would have one of the pokemon and maybe one or two more then you would fight her.

Asuka would actually have a fighting type gym with some fire here or there but she's an early on gym, based on the fire-y fighting spirit of people. It'd be a long journey but straight forward through the gym with just a straight path forward. Asuka's pokemon would be Combusken, Machop, and Hitmonchan.

Atsushi?

Likely a Steel-type gym leader, with Rock, Fairy, and Ground as dual-types mixed in. He'll use a heavily defensive set, focused on wearing down the opposition with field hazards (i.e Stealth Rock, Sandstorm, Toxic, Toxic-Spikes). Naturally, Explosion/Self-destruct will be in there too.

I really like this prompt! Mainly because I love pokemon lol. Unfortunately, Zan would be fairly straightforward. Based on his passion towards hand to hand combat, and affinity towards fire and lava, Zan's gym would be some sort of combination of fire/fighting with maybe some steel? Oh, and because of Son Goku, there'd have to be some monkeys as well

Zan's team would consist of Primeape, Steelix, Arcanine, Hariyama, Blaziken, and Infernape.

Seigi wouldn't really care much for any certain type, only what he liked. He'd probably have a Pikachu, a Blaziken, Haunter, and Lugia.

Signature style: Strong Fist

Aeliza would be a ice ghost type gym leader, that focused on status effects and instant death moves. Most notably she employs the mind reader + sheer cold, destiny bond, and perish song strategies.
Her pokemon of choice would be Articuno, Frosslass, Gengar, and Lapris. The rule for her gym is that if a ends in a double knock out the challenger loses, and no items during battles. She either does a single battle if she is the 5th or 6th gym, or if she is the 8th gym then she apes the style of the red belt and demands the challenger wins 100 battles (in the game this is probably cut down to thirty) (in triple battle form) in a row signifying that the challenger is the best in their generation if they want to battle her.

I know it's not directly site-related, but I often considered making Borothor for TNRPG as an Iwa Jounin Hammer Spec Ijutsu Spec (before foreigners rolled around, where he would've been an obvious TheoPaladin-2HChivalry Spec). I'm still keeping him as an NPC for if I ever finish/run my Naruto Tabletop system ;_;

To preface this, I only have experience with the first three generations of Pokemon, so anything Gen 4 or later is excluded from these answers.

Kazu would mix-and-match his team, centering them mostly on ones he thinks look cool or tough. Machamp, Kingler, Scizor, Blaziken, Aggron, Salamence.

Taiyo's team would be heavily water-focused, with a decent number of ice moves on his Pokemon, as a tribute to his connection with Tsuki and the Kazahana. Golduck, Dewgong, Cloyster, Starmie, Lapras, Milotic.

Kanbe's team would focus on various hard, rock Pokemon with a couple of flying types mixed in. Pidgeot, Golem, Kabutops, Aerodactyl, Steelix, Tyranitar.

Tane and Rumi would be tag-team battlers, each of them getting three out of the six-man team. They would have a well-balanced team, covering lots of types. Tane would use Vileplume, Vaporeon, Gardevoir. Rumi would use Primeape, Electabuzz, Flareon.

I just made Kisora! So let's get an idea of what she'd be. . .

Kisora's Gym would consist of Fighting/Dark/Normal Type Pokemon. She's a drunken smoking mess normally. Her team would consist of Scrafty, Bisharp, Persian, Lopunny (Mega), Lucario, and one of my personal favorites of Marshadow. Her gym wouldn't be fluffy or anything. Mostly just a straight up battle as she tends to not fight with anyone on her side and usually.
