The monk sat on one of the longs that surrounded the small fire that had been set up for the group. Not that the elements bothered him, the placement of the flame had been more for subterfuge purposes. Several figures sitting alone in the dark, with nothing but the moon overhead? That begged the question of what kind of skullduggery they were up to. Five figures sitting around a fire at night? A usual sight in almost every country on the continent. He held the naginata across his shoulders, draping both of his arms over the shaft of the weapon.

He sighed, and looked over to Maneshi. "I have decided that it is time for us to make our moves. Fortune favors us – the divining tool has shown that there are two stones in a relatively close area. They are to our east, somewhere. You will make your way there and find out what you can. If you find an easy opportunity to acquire them, you know what to do." He pursed his lips for a moment, before turning to address the rest of them.

"We shall not be idle, ourselves. Tomorrow, we will move around the countryside and begin marshaling our forces. You will leave tonight, Maneshi. With your intel, we will be able to begin making our moves. I had hoped that these fools would destroy themselves with this world war, but I do not see the stalemate lifting itself soon. So we shall have to force our opening. Are there any questions?" Hantei looked to each one, letting his gaze linger on each of them, before looking back up to the stars. A year was nothing to him, not in the grander scheme of things. If there's one thing he had learned, it was that fortune favored the patient – so long as they were bold when providence called.

In response to his elder monk companion, Maneshi's gaze drifted over in Hantei's direction. "Oh, good! I was getting tired of this vacation of ours, Hantei," he retorted. "Any inkling on where to start?"

The tall, slender man stood from his log seat, stepping over it and taking a few steps towards the eastern horizon. "--Ahh, actually? Don't tell me. I'll enjoy the hunt."

Maneshi's eyes narrowed as he peered across the land before him. Rolling fields and forests filled his view, and the occasional river or stream cut through the monotony to provide life to the various flora and fauna. "Hmm... I wonder what tune these bumpkins dance to..." he pondered, pointer finger resting on his bottom lip in contemplation. "--Oho! I've got just the idea!"

With excitement and gusto, Maneshi turned to face the rest of his companions and flashed a waving gesture at them. "Well, I sure have a long journey ahead of me, huh? Guess I'd best get moving. Unless you'd like to give me a little teleport out of here, Hantei?"

Hantei flicked his eyes away from the stars back to Maneshi as he hemmed and hawwed, before outright requesting a gateway from the camp. "Of course, Maneshi. I wouldn't want you to have to experience walking," the monk said, a light note of derision in his voice. He stood up, swining the naginata off his shoulders point down, and stuck it into the ground. "Judging from what I have seen of the maps of this place, it strikes me that the stones are close to Mizu no Kuni," he said, giving Maneshi a pointed glance. "The one in the ocean," he explained, hopefully unnecessarily. He hadn't paid much attention to what the rest of them had been studying – if they had at all – in the last year.

He reached out with his will, his power, his determination, focusing it all in the space between himself and Maneshi, and spawned the anamoly. Shaped like a circle, it was a bridge through space itself, folding that almost incorporeal concept, shaping it as Hantei willed it. Faintly, the sound of waves could be heard going through it. Or is that just my imagination? He exhaled a breath he didn't know he was holding, and commanded the man through. "Go now."

Once the masked man was through the gates he would turn to face the rest of his band. "As I was saying, it is time to marshal our forces. There have to be some warriors, even if small in stature and repute, in this land that we find ourselves in. They can begin their own kind of reconnaisance, I think – on the strength of the warriors we may encounter, and what kind of techniques they will possess." He looked, again, at each of them, wondering what their thoughts were on the matter. Only a fool didn't listen to counsel when it was so readily available – even if their mind was, more or less, made up.

Maneshi gave his liege an over-dramatic bow. "Why thank you," he said, facetiously. "I'll be back soon, Your Graciousness."

Running his fingers through his hair, the masked blonde gave his companions one final wave of the hand before stepping through the swirling vortex, not wanting to waste too much time jabbering.

...

...But, in typical fashion, a moment passed and his visage could be seen poking itself back out of the portal. "--Say, Hantei, I just thought of something. I dunno if you'll be keeping tabs on me while I'm out in the field, or not, but do port me back if you think I may have been found out."

"Er... not that I imagine I will, but, you know... --Anyways! Toodle-loo!"

[Exit]

Another rift tore open within the world of the mortals. The fire leader, Uchiha Seto flew first and foremost through it. Sliding over dirt and soil like the pathetic creature he was, more would end up like him, ants awaiting their turn to be crushed and he would be the key towards that goal. In front of Hantei and Ohta, the man skidded to a stop. The violet portal rippled several times before Exia silently emerged from it. Her lifeless gaze looked down upon the immobilized pawn. Then back up to her leader. A smile formed but no words were spoken. Instead, she dug her hands into her pockets as the rift behind her shut close.

The plan had been set in motion. The next step would be soon revealed...

Continuation...

Hakuro hadn't returned yet. Days that felt like weeks had already passed. Their prisoner remained on the floor, fed like a pig for the sake of survival. Exia slowly approached him from behind before placing her gloved hand over the back of his head. A scream of agony echoed through the landscape forcing groups of numerous birds to flee in fear. Purple energy beamed through the thick skull and into the brain of her victim. Minutes passed, and then it was over. "We lack the mindstone for now". Exia stated as the Seto pawn broke free with enormous strength from its shackles and stood up. "It's strength is already waning." a portal tore itself into the very fabric of reality itself. It turned around and walked through it. An untraceable means of teleportation that used no such thing as 'chakra'. One of their trump cards that had no inherent weaknesses.

The insects can roll in the dirt with one another.

This time.

Exit w/seto.

The world spoke to him. It was time to bring back his forward scout. It was a struggle to open the gate that was required to bring the man through, and he could feel the world groan in pain as a rend in it – in its most fundamental fabric – was torn asunder. It wasn’t large, small enough for a man to fit through, but any intrusion like it was enough for the world to protest. Hantei waited, staring through the portal, waiting for the scout to come through – hopefully, something had been accomplished.

A small, cyan-haired girl stepped hazardously through the portal, hands clutching her detached sleeves in timid fright. "H-Hello...? W-Where am I....?"

Long twintails swung freely in the high mountainous wind, blowing here and there with the breeze. The girl froze in her tracks when she noticed the many imposing-looking figures lingering around a fireplace. She dropped to her knees in terror, cowering before them. "P-P-Please don't hurt me...!"
