Tsuchigumo Kumogami (NPC)
Kemurigakure no Sato
From times immemorial, there had apparently been a strange family of warriors who resided in the Land of Smoke. At some point in their history, this family, known as the Kumogami, was rumored to have encountered the Jorogumo, or woman-spider, a legendary yokai which had been living deep in the heart of the Land of Smoke since the age of the Sage of Six Paths. Kumohime Kumogami, the leader of this warrior family at the time, had supposedly made a eternal, binding blood pact with the Jorogumo in which it would teach her and her subordinates her secret spider arts and give them and their descendants her blessings in exchange for their eternal, undying loyalty. Thus, the fabled, long standing relationship between the Jorogumo, her children and the Kumogami warrior family began in earnest.
From then on, several stories with each subsequent one being more elaborate and fantastic than its predecessor, began to spread throughout the Land of Smoke and later throughout the rest of the world about the Kumogami family and the strange new generation which was born into it that was said to have disconcerting physical anomalies and incredible otherworldly abilities due to the blessings of the Jorogumo. At least, that’s what had happened according to the many stories told about the Kumogami. Whatever the reason for this change, it was a hard, irrefutable fact that thenceforth, all the members of the newer, subsequent generations were seen to have eight appendages (namely, six upper limbs and two lower ones) as well as the ability to create spider silk just like the spiders they had worshipped and continued to worship with great fervor. Over the next several generations and even well into the age of the first shinobi, these perks had allegedly allowed the Kumogami to excel in whatever battles they took part in more and more until their names had become famous throughout the world, and especially in the Land of Smoke. At the same time, the Kumogami grew larger and larger with each generation until the current age arrived in which the new leadership finally decided that since they would become a formal shinobi clan.
To aid in this endeavor, they set about condensing and modifying the hereditary arts passed down through their family, now a shinobi clan, to ultimately create a formal set of secret clan-specific ninja techniques thanks to the knowledge about chakra manipulation, taijutsu, genjutsu, and the like. Armed as they were with this new, much more efficient, modernized system of spider themed, secret ninja clan techniques, the Kumogami managed to get the attention of the new ninja village that had at last formed after all the recent wars in the Land of Smoke, namely Kemurigakure no Sato, or the Hidden Smoke Village. Once this took place, talks between the Kumogami and the leaders of Kemurigakure began and after what seemed like several months of back and forth, incessant negotiation, the Kumogami clan and the Kemuri leaders had finally reached a mutually beneficial agreement on how to proceed into the future. As part of the bargain, the Kumogami promised eternal loyalty to Kemurigakure no Sato and in exchange, they received the blessings of this hidden ninja village as well as their promise of continued future prosperity and good fortune. In this manner, the mutually beneficial relationship between the Kumogami clan and Kemurigakure which exists even into the present day took shape and will hopefully continue to hold out long into the future.
All members of this clan, whether they be male or female are dark skinned shinobi with black, shaggy hair tied into a pony tail (though usually only the men possess shaggy, coarse hair whereas the women possess smooth, silky hair), and keen, piercing black eyes. Two of these can be seen on their faces just like those of any other person while the third is usually kept closed and hidden beneath a headband or some other article of clothing which they use to cover their foreheads. Both men and women of this clan are fairly tall and have six upper limbs as well which, when taken together with their two lower limbs, give them a total of 8 limbs just as those of a spider.
Their attire may vary in exact hue according to the personal preferences of each clan member, but the over all pattern tends to be the same. They usually prefer to wear sleeveless dark colored tops under a sleeveless light colored tunics that can be seen bearing the clan symbol (namely, the Jorogumo) on the back. Below they usually either wear dark colored skin-tight shorts or standard ninja trousers. On their forearms are usually some manner of arm-warmers or perhaps wristbands and their choice of footwear is traditional shinobi sandals in the color of their choice. Some may also wear calf-length leg warmers covered by bandages, and some others even go so far as to wear a thin, purple, rope-like belt tied in an inverted bow around their waists to secure their outfits. The nature of the fabric making up these outfits naturally varies with the exact demands of the season that is predominant at any given time. That said, though the aforementioned outfit is the norm, the members are not actually required to wear it exactly to those specifications, and can choose to wear whatever outfits suit their particular fancies.
Generally speaking, the personalities of the Kumogami clan members run the gamut of possibilities from the somewhat low key to the outright pompous and exuberant as well as everything in between, but there are certain traits which all of them will almost certainly display in most situations. They almost always see any situation, including combat, as a game and will approach them with a laid-back ease that can often prove irksome to those who tend to be overly emotionally sensitive to this type of behavior. They greatly enjoy combat and relish the thought and act of trying to find strong opponents/targets who can prove to be a source of entertainment for them very much. In contrast, they often tend to find weaker opponents/targets not worth their time and get bored easily when up against them. They may also be heard using typical gaming terminology such as “level”, “difficulty”, or “minor character”.
They also tend to be extremely arrogant and some may even have a sadistic side which can be seen by observing their tendency to play around with their foes/targets too much due to their wish to have fun seeing said foes/targets struggle in vain against them. As if this weren’t enough, they may even laugh and become gradually more brutal in their strategies, attacks, and responses. This is a big weakness to the members of this clan because it can cause them to slow their teams down by overextending their battles with interesting opponents/targets rather than finishing them off quickly and this major weakness is only compounded by the their typical overconfidence which can make them underestimate their foes/targets and then lose the fight because of this fatal mistake.
The members of the Kumogami clan possess and practice an obscure form of secret ninjutsu which grants them three different kinds of perks. The first is their unique body structure which grants them a total of eight appendages, similar to spiders. These allow them to add extra power and variety to attacks, hold multiple tools simultaneously, to perform several tasks simultaneously, and even make multiple handseals simultaneously. They also possess a third eye on their foreheads which is usually kept hidden beneath their hitai-ate, but when revealed and active such as in a serious battle, the eye grants them a boost to perception and since it is related, to tracking as well. Some of the more intelligent members may also find themselves getting an extra precognition save above their baseline granted by their wisdom level.
The second perk enjoyed by this clan’s members is the ability to make spider webs by infusing their body fluids with chakra. They can use these webs to bind, trap, or even to sense enemies. These webs are extremely sticky, yet durable and elastic in nature due to the clan member’s ability to constantly funnel their chakra into them. As a result, these elastic webs cannot be cut with ordinary non chakra flow enhanced weapons and cannot be torn apart by brute force alone. The Kumogami clan members can also make a thicker golden liquid which can harden into a chakra-resistant type of metal when it makes contact with the air. By chewing this spider web substance in his mouth, they can make it more solid and gum-like, allowing to create makeshift weapons such as senbon, kunai, and the like. They can also secrete this material from their sweat glands all over their body to form full body armor which is highly resistant to physical attacks, metal throwing weapons, and even standard chakra based attacks. Finally, they can form their clan’s ultimate weapon, a giant war bow and its associated arrows that can even shatter trees when fired, with this golden spider web liquid.
The final perk afforded to the Kumogami clan members is their high affinity for spiders of all kinds. As a result, they actually have a clan specific contract with a certain spider family led by a giant spider named “Kyodaigumo”
. This contract allows them to call forth and command various spiders for any purpose they see fit such as combat, scouting, tracking, etc.
Since the spider webs made by the Kumogami clan have a chakra base, they can be cut by chakra flow enhanced weapon or other pure chakra cutting techniques of the same or higher rank than the Kumogami clan jutsu in question. The Gentle Fist style of taijutsu is especially effective and so, any Gentle Fist technique can cut through Kumogami clan jutsu of up to 1 rank higher than its own without any difficulty since it targets the actual chakra flow through the spider threads to sever it instead of trying to cut the actual thread itself. The webs can also be burnt away by fire style jutsu of same or higher rank, such as the Amaterasu or the related Blaze Release jutsu. The weapons and armor made by the Sticky Spider Thread jutsu used by this clan can be broken with physical force of equal or higher rank than the clan jutsu in question.
